A tip for the futon mattress!

futon mattressMake sure that you futon mattress is of the best quality.

I've discovered from having a futon that there are a lot of futon mattresses out there. And not all of them are good ones. To choose the right kind of mattress for your futon, use the following steps:

1. Check for thickness.
Some people try and get away with selling a mattress around one inch think. This is the thickness of a good comforter. Take my advice, and look at this before you buy it. Otherwise you'll have some hard nights on thin ground.

2. Check for stuffing.
Cotton and polyester stuffing are attractants for dust mites. These are also the two worst fillings to clean. Watch out for these.

3. Look for plastic
Sometimes plastic covering will be inside a mattress because manufacturers think that no one will notice. WRONG! I noticed immediately from a crinkling sound when I sat on the mattress. This is not good quality.

Good luck in your mattress search!

How to pick a mattress without becoming an expert on mattresses

mattress reviewDecide how much you want to spend, decide what you want and pay attention to the details of the warranty. Buy from a reputable seller and protect your warranty.

I recently went out to buy a king sized mattress. With a new baby on the way and the fact I co-sleep and already have a 4 year old that still crawls into bed with us at night upon occasion, I knew my queen sized bed was going to be too small. I talked my husband into it then went shopping.
At first, never having shopped for a mattress before, I was a bit confused by all the hype, brands and types of mattresses. My first trip to a furniture store for this, I got a salesman who was obviously only interested in selling me the most expensive mattress and box spring he could. He also decided at the beginning that I wasn’t worth his time and ignored me for a while, until I lay down on one of the most expensive mattresses in the place and stared at him for a while. (I am used to this reaction from salesmen/women. They tend to look at me and think I don’t have any money because I do not dress up to go shopping or something.) I came away from this with the idea I was going to have to plunk down a lot more money than my husband was going to spend for a mattress.

What size mattress is best?

better sleep council mattressBuying a too-small mattress is one of the biggest mistakes new bed-buyers make. Couples who've been sleeping on a "double" since they got married may think that's just fine, until they learn that each person has only as much sleeping space as a baby's crib! Here are size guidelines for shoppers from the Better Sleep Council:

Full beds, sometimes still called "double," are 53 inches wide, which is just 15 inches wider than a twin size (single). That leaves each partner only 27 inches of personal space, or about the width of a crib. Both twin and full sizes are approximately 75 inches long, which may be too short for some adults, especially men.

Recommendations: Full size is only enough space for a single sleeper and only if under 5 feet 5 inches tall. Parents are increasingly choosing full size over twin for teenage bedrooms, and even for younger children in order to give parents a more comfortable place to rest when reading together at tuck-in time.

Sleep Country Canada Mattresses FAQ

sleep country canada mattress1. Why are today's mattresses so thick? Will regular sheets fit a thick mattress?

1. Today's advanced cushioning layers should fully conform to your body for complete support and maximum comfort. The combined height of the cushioning layers has to be thick enough to accommodate the curves of your body. To properly cover a thick mattress, you'll need to buy deep-pocket fitted sheets.

2. My new mattress hides part of my headboard. What can I do?
You may be able to replace your current frame with a low-profile frame. If that's not low enough -- or if a low-profile frame isn't compatible with the construction of your current frame -- you may be able to purchase a low-profile box spring.

3. How do I know what mattress set is the right one for me?
Most people buy a new mattress set because they are unhappy with their existing set. Comfort levels are unique to each person, so the only one who can really answer this question is you. Tell us your needs and our sales associates will locate and demonstrate a model based on your criteria. Note that we offer a 60-night comfort guarantee to ensure satisfaction.

Choosing Mattress Size

mattress sizesSize is an important element to consider when deciding to purchase a mattress.

A King Mattress is approximately 76 x 80 inches. This ample size is the most comfortable for two adults. The extra space in width allows for unrestricted movement during the night and provides room for those animal lovers that like to sleep with their pets at their side.

A Queen Size Mattress is approximately 60 x 80 inches. It is a popular choice for couples, and not as bulky as the King Mattress which looks better in a large room.

A Full Size Mattress is approximately 54 x 75 inches. It is ideal for one adult. A Full Mattress fits well in smaller rooms or guest rooms and can save you money on cheaper bedding.

A Twin size mattress is 39 x 75 inches. It is the smallest standard mattress available and is ideal for children and easy to move around.

When a mattress goes bump in the night

queen size mattressIt's hard to get a good night's sleep when your mattress feels bumpy. That's Ruth's problem in "The Princess and the Pea," through August 30, at Marriott Theatre for Young Audiences, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire.

Even though her bed was stacked with mattresses, she suffered all night. We asked Ruth (actor Dara Cameron) what caused her discomfort. "I knew that there was something underneath there," she said. "It was a very bumpy night."

Ruth endured the torture because of her love for Prince Wellington David, whose mother was upset that he had fallen in love with a commoner. "We are two peas in a pod, the prince and I," Ruth declared. "He's a writer and he writes about faraway lands and beautiful things, and I love to read his stories. We have a lot in common."

The determined young woman admitted that it has been an interesting challenge getting used to the prince's mother, Queen Evermean. "But I think I proved myself," Ruth said.

Singing all the time helped ease Ruth's tension. "I think singing is a wonderful way to express my feelings," she declared.
